Proceeds to Shirley Heywood for the International Nepal Fellowship
Shirley Heywood has written the following piece.
I am connected with the local government hospital in Surkhet in Nepal to develop care for women suffering from the terrible birth injury called obstetric fistula.
We have plans to build a fistula treatment and training centre within the new Regional hospital complex so that we can better treat women with fistula. The centre will have a ward and operation theatre, laundry, kitchen and a room where patients can have training in skills such as sewing so that those who have been abandoned by family will be able to earn a living. There will be a library for trainees, and doctors and nurses offices. We will be providing the only service for fistula patients living in the western half of the country. Women may need several weeks care and good nourishment before they are well enough for surgery. We will also be able to offer admission to await labour and safe delivery to women from remote districts after successful fistula surgery.
The government hospital will give us the land that we need, but we in the mission I work with, INF (International Nepal Fellowship) are raising the funds to build and equip the centre so that it can be ready within the next 2-3 years. We will work in partnership with the government hospital and eventually, when the centre is well established and the local medical team have the experience they need, they will take over responsibility for the service.
Thank You for your help and support.
All money from the sale of tickets and money raised on the night will go to Shirley Heywood in connection with this very worthy cause (International Nepal Fellowship)

The 20 singers are drawn from a region bounded by Ambleside, Barrow and Lancaster, meeting for an intensive period to prepare for each concert. Formed eight years ago, Allegri has gained a strong reputation for singing programmes full of interest for both singers and audiences.
The first half of the programme contains masterpieces by three musical geniuses. They start with three motets by Palestrina included the extraordinary O Magnum Mysterium, followed by a Bach motet for double choir: Der Geist Hilft Unser Schwachheit Auf. Finally they perform Brahms’ motet Warum? in which he shows the influences of both of the earlier composers.
The second half is in a lighter vein. The singers are joined by a piano duet to perform Brahms’ delightful Liebeslieder Waltzes in English. These 18 very brief lovesongs are full of tunes and wit, and reflect Brahms’ unexpressed love for Clara Schumann.
'On Wings of Song' a short recital of Ravel, Gershwin, Cole Porter and Aaron Parker by soprano Kathryn West and pianist/composer Aaron Parker. This was a FREE recital in aid of Manna House, donations welcome.

The 20 singers are drawn from a region bounded by Ambleside, Barrow and Lancaster, meeting for an intensive period to prepare for each concert. Formed seven years ago, Allegri has gained a strong reputation for singing programmes full of interest for both singers and audiences. Their Brathay programme shows how different composers wrote music for the same words, including settings of ‘Ave Maria’ by Victoria, Mozart and Bruckner; and ‘I was Glad’ by Scarlatti and Purcell.
The first concert in the Music at Brathay series was on Saturday 17th December 2011 by Choro Cantilene, a group of 19 singers directed by Peter Frost. The concert was named The Mystery and Joy of Christmas and included music by Laurisdsen, Sweelink, Adrian Self, Chilcott, Colin Matthews, Elizabeth Poston, Jonathan Willcocks, Praetorius and John Gardner.
